Groundwater Research

Morwick Groundwater Research Center at Guelph University

In 2022, Edward Morwick donated $10 million to assist in the establishment of the Morwick Groundwater Research Centre at the University of Guelph.  The mission of this facility, which is currently recognized as a world-renowned groundwater research institute, is to assist in the better understanding and protection of our critical groundwater flow systems.

Since the April 2025 grand opening of Phase I of the Centre, the 100-seat classroom has quickly become a gathering place for learning, collaboration and knowledge exchange.  Since the opening they have welcomed over 600 youth, community members, groundwater professionals and researchers, farmers, veterinarians, members of parliament, and many others.

Morwick’s donation has been instrumental in helping the University expand its programs, offer more hands-on and field-based learning opportunities, and welcome broader and more diverse audiences.  At present there are research projects being conducted in Canada, the United States, China and India, all manned by U of G personnel.
