THE ROAD TO THESSALONICA ($42.50 + Shipping) – published in 2020
This book was not written for commercial purposes or with educational objectives. It was written to entertain, amuse, and importantly, to preserve some important parts of rural history. Some parts of this book, in fact most of it, will be considered vulgar, even repulsive, and at the very least, in poor taste. There are scenes of a sexual and violent nature, there is much profanity; and some people may be offended.
The sorts of things that people considered humorous in the past are a reflection of the society in which they lived. What they perceived as being funny is an important part of the social and cultural history of the time, just as important as the effects of the Great Depression and the Second World War, the polio outbreak that swept the country in the 1940’s, Marilyn Bell swimming across Lake Ontario and Barbara Ann Scott winning the Olympic ladies’ Gold Medal. And there is a spiritual aspect: what was considered sacred and what was profane says much about a society. Hard cover – 277 pages
BLOOD IN THE BOONDOCKS ($42.50 + Shipping) – published in 2023
This book has nothing to say about urban homicides. These crimes took place in peaceful pastoral settings. They took place across North America from the American Midwest to the farmlands of Southern Ontario. In all communities, both urban and rural, there exists a criminal sub-culture, a loosely-knit network whose beliefs, customs and conduct are very much at odds with those of the larger population. Hard cover – 362 pages
MY LIFE AT THE BAR – A MEMOIR ($42.50 + Shipping)– published in 2025
This is the story of a Jerseyville farm boy who went to school, became a lawyer, and spent the best years of his life as a criminal defense attorney. And it tells what happened when that life, for various reasons, was no longer a lucrative proposition. At that point the writer started seeing dollar signs in other areas of activity. God’s presence has usually been manifested through other human beings, those who guided him to the point where criminal defense attorneys were finding it hard to make a living. Which took him to real estate development. The rest is history.
