Edward Young Morwick (born 1945) is an accomplished Canadian barrister, author, cattle breeder, and philanthropist based in Hamilton, Ontario. 

Professional Career

  • Law: Morwick practiced law for over 43 years, initially specializing in criminal law in Hamilton before moving into property development and venture capital.
  • Agriculture: A descendant of influential Holstein breeders, he is a noted authority on dairy cattle. He authored several definitive texts on the subject, including The Chosen BreedThe Holstein History, and E.Y. Morwick’s Livestock Record.
  • Finance: He established a mortgage investment and venture capital firm later in his career. 

Philanthropy and Legacy

Morwick is a major benefactor to the University of Guelph, having donated more than $2.3 million to support various academic initiatives: 

  • Creative Writing: He established the Edward Y. Morwick Graduate Scholarship in Creative Writing to support MFA students.
  • Water Research: In 2018, he pledged $1 million toward water conservation, protection, and rehabilitation research, citing it as a critical global issue.
  • Dairy Youth: He supports the Edward Y. Morwick Ontario Dairy Youth Trust Fund Scholarship, which provides annual awards to students in post-secondary dairy programs.
